Lead me to the Rock watercolor art print by Julie Hammer

Happy New Year!

Wow! 2020 sure was an interesting year for all of us, wasn’t it? I am sure that most of our hearts have felt overwhelmed during this past year. Right? I know that for me, when I feel overwhelmed, I easily allow the stress of the uncertainty in my life to weigh me down. And to cause me to try to take control, and fix things. Or to sink into despair when I feel there is nothing I can do to remedy the situation.

But what would God have our response to be? I think that this verse, Psalm 61:2 sums it up perfectly:

“When my heart is overwhelmed, lead me to the Rock that is higher than 1.”

When do our hearts become overwhelmed? It’s when there are situations beyond our control, right? When we don’t know what to do or what is going on. In those moments we can cry out to God, and allow him to lead us to Himself, the Rock, our firm foundation. And most certainly, He is higher, greater, than we are! He is all knowing, all seeing. He sees the end from the beginning. He alone can lead us out of the turmoil and uncertainty of our days, into a place of peace and security, when we are dwelling in the presence of our God, our Rock.

None of us knows what 2021 holds. We hope for a better year, but there are no guarantees in this life, are there? But no matter what comes, whenever our hearts feel overwhelmed, allow God to lead us to the Rock that is higher than ourselves, and our circumstances! I pray that God will bless your heart with the peace that passes all understanding, guarding your heart and mind in this coming year!
